A neighborhood in a rural town in China has homes that are built next to each other and have small yards in between. People can see easily what others are doing in those yards. And sometimes, they can witness some horrifying things. What alarmed the residents the most was the way a middle-aged Chinese man was abusing his dog.

The dog lived in the yard and would sometimes make a mess, as most dogs would. When the owner, who rarely takes his dog out for walks, sees the mess, he gets mad and beats the poor pooch with a stick.

The dog would cry loudly and the neighbors could hear them. Every time the stick would land on his face, they could hear the dull thud that the hit makes. The dog would yelp and howl, but would not retaliate.

The neighbors felt bad, but there was nothing they could do. It wasn’t their dog and they didn’t want to get into a confrontation with the cruel man. Eventually, one of them had seen enough and decided to get help.

Learning that the defenseless dog was regularly getting beat up, an animal welfare organization sent a rescue team to save the dog. Thankfully, the good-hearted rescuers were able to convince the owner to turn the dog over to them.

By the time they got to him, the pup’s face was very swollen. He had a cut on his brow too. The dog was weak and exhausted from all the abuse. They had to carry him all the way to the clinic.

Brain damage

The vet immediately did several tests. Aside from the obvious swelling, they discovered that the dog had a neck injury, and possibly, some brain damage. They put the injured pooch in an intensive care unit and they prescribed medication to treat his injuries. The dog needed round-the-clock care as his condition wasn’t stable.

After a few days, he was stabilized enough to be put in a regular kennel.

For the next couple of weeks, the dog stayed in the clinic. Thankfully, he was responding to the treatment and showed some progress. His wounds and injuries healed and his swelling was gone.

The dog, who they named Donggang, was brought to the organization’s shelter when he was released. He will stay there to rehabilitate and would be put up for adoption once he is ready.

  1. Donggang’s Owner should go to jail. He is a POS. Someone needs to take a stick and beat his Ass BLACK and BLUE. Heartless and Cruel. I would not been able to listen to a Child or Animal being Beaten. I believe in KARMA.

  2. Seriously that person needs to have his ass and HEAD beat with the same stick and hopefully it would cause enough brain damage to make him see what a jack ass he is!! If all the people that mistreated animals had the same abuse they inflict on these poor helpless animals they might.. just maybe see what a total ass they are!!

  3. This sweetheart hopefully goes to a person that will live, take care of this beautiful canine soul this day forward. His previous owner should have his ass whipped for what he did. Same as others, I could not listen to cries every night from this canine angel. I’d probably be in trouble myself after I took care of business on the owner before I took the baby for good. I’d also change his name, he’s a survivor and should be treated as such.

  4. This makes my blood boil. Seeing this poor dog so hurt makes me want to is the owner not in jail? I hope he won’t get another dog and do the same.. Horrible man!

  5. How can I get more info about when Donggang will be put up for adoption? Would someone in the USA be eligible to be considered? We have 2 12-yr old dogs about his size that are loving and gentle and I think it would be a very good environment for him – we give our furbabies the best love and care and they are part of our family in AZ.

    • Hi Mary,

Thank you for your response, email, and for the care and love you give to our fur friends. This post/article triggered a big response from 1000s of dog lovers from around the world.

Unfortunately, I don’t know how you could adopt from overseas especially from restrive counties like China. On the positive side this little dog is now living with caring people.

Again, thank you all you do here in the US to save and help dogs!

  6. I cannot put into words how I feel about the Chinese population who think it’s okay to viciously abuse their animals . I hate them with a passion and have always said there is something wrong with those people

    • I feel the same way Caitlin! Maybe I’m wrong, but I think it could be because of no God or Jesus, only communism. We are taught to love and be good to people, not to kill dogs for food. Think about the china virus. So many innocent people have died because of it.

  7. Disgusting that people say they dont want to get involved 8d have been in there asap grabbed the stick and beat the owner up .
Im a true believer in karma he will get his . But honestly shame on the neighbours how could you not get involved asap.
Chinese have no respect for animals they still eat dogs oh how we have evolved !

  8. How can a person be so cruel ! What about the neighbors who heard everything ?? They don’t have a heart ?? That person who had beaten the dog should be in jail and somebody should show her what it feels to be beaten !! I hope Karma will work here !!

  9. I’m surprised he didn’t eat the dog… Why in the videos do they take video of the

  10. Omg I cried during the entire article and especially at the video, this is beyond sad, how can anyone hurt any animal, I really hope that person gets some kind of punishment and that this dog gets the best owner possible someone who will make him forget his previous life and gives him lots of love and kisses.

  11. We rescue hospice dogs and have seen too many dog abuse cases. I wish there was away for us to adopt him and show him nothing but live the rest of his life.

  12. The neighbours felt bad yes, but waited much too long to save poor puppy from such serious abuse 😟 heartbreaking to see how much he endured. Glad he now knows love 💗

  13. Wherever that little furbaby lives, isn’t there a SPCA o something with the same charter. I have to believe that if they do not have one, it is just as obvious that they have no laws against animal abuse.;

Please tell me this is not a country where dos are an entree!

  14. SO CRUEL!!!~ WHY DID THE NEIGHBORS WAIT SO LONG???? Pray this little Angel is Happy and Loved for the rest of his life. This is so Heartbreaking!!!
